How Your Teen Is Wired by Joe White, Larry Weeden

Is your teen on the track to a meaningful future? Are you finding out what a joy it can be to help make the most of how God has wired him or her?

Many of us want to help our teens dream big, fulfilling, God-honoring dreams. But how do we do that?

The first step is to understand the great experiment known as your teen. In all of human history, there's never been another person with your teen's exact mix of God-given personality, talents, interests and spiritual gifts. As the two of you get to know that unique wiring through self-tests like the ones in the book Wired by God, you'll start to see which kinds of dreams might make a good fit.

Here are some questions you can use anytime to find out how God has wired your young person:

How To Be Born Again

God loves you and has a purpose for your life:

This is how much God loved the world: He gave his Son, Jesus Christ, his one and only Son. And this is why: so that no one need be destroyed; by believing in him, anyone can have a whole and lasting life.  (John 3:16 MSG)

My purpose is to give life in all its fullness.  (John 10:10 MSG)

But there is a problem….

All of us sin and our sin has separated us from God:

For all have sinned and fall short of God’s glorious standard.  (Romans 3:23 NLT)

We were created to have a relationship with God; but, because of our independent ways that fellowship with God was broken. The bible calls this sin.

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life through Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 6:23 NLT)

Sin separates us from God. We try to reach God through our own efforts, like a good life, philosophy or religion, but we fail.

Jesus Christ is the only one that can bridge the gap to God.

But God showed his great love for us by sending Jesus Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. (Romans 5:8 NLT)

I passed on to you what was most important and what had also been passed on to me––that Christ died for our sins, just as the Scriptures said. He was buried, and he was raised from the dead on the third day, as the Scriptures said. He was seen by Peter and then by the twelve apostles. After that, he was seen by more than five hundred of his followers at one time  (1 Corinthians 15:3-6 NLT)

Jesus said to him, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.  (John 14:6 NKJ)

But to all who believed Him and accepted Him, He gave the right to become children of God. (John 1:12 NLT)

What this means is that those who become Christians become new persons. They are not the same anymore, for the old life is gone. A new life has begun! (2 Corinthians 5:17 NLT)

God saved you by his special favor when you believed. And you can’t take credit for this; it is a gift from God. Salvation is not a reward for the good things we have done, so none of us can boast about it.  (Ephesians 2:8-9 NLT)

Listen! I am standing at the door, knocking; if you hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to you and eat with you, and you with me.  (Revelations 3:20)

Starting our relationship with God involves believing in Jesus Christ, turning from sinful desires (this is called repentance) and trusting Jesus to come into our lives and forgive our sins.

Next comes speaking to God (this is called prayer). God knows our heart and is more concerned with our attitude, than with our words.

Here’s a sample prayer…

"Lord Jesus, I need You. Thank You for dying on the cross for my sins. I open the door of my life and receive You as my Savior and Lord. Thank You for forgiving my sins and giving me eternal life. Take control of the throne of my life. Make me the kind of person You want me to be."

If this prayer expresses the desire of your heart, then you can pray this prayer right now and Christ will come into your life, as He promised.

How to Determine Your Spiritual Gifts by Patrick Morley

The following comments were made during a small group meeting I attended with a number of godly men. They are typical of the comments Christian men everywhere are making:
  • "I finally have peace in my career. I want to do more for Him."
  • "I just turned 40. I've been in the battle for 25 years. I find myself wanting to feel more significant."
  • "My Christianity is like a savings account that has not produced a very good return."
  • "Will you pray for me? My passion to serve the Lord is gone, and I want it back."
  • "I only have one talent, but I want to be faithful with the one I have."
  • "I burn with a desire to serve this generation."

Sex and the Single Person by John Piper

If the Bible addresses an issue with unrelenting frequency and urgency, and if that issue is one of the strongest natural forces in the world today, then ministers of the Word of God are obligated sooner or later to declare God's will on that issue. The sexual life of the unmarried person is of great concern to God. Even those of you who have not entrusted yourselves to Christ for salvation and do not love God, even you are obligated to obey what God has to say about your sexual desires. Though you rebel against his ownership, you are God's. He made you and has an absolute right to tell you what is good for you. He sent Jesus Christ into the world to overcome your rebellion and to make peace by the blood of his cross. And my prayer at the very outset is that you might turn from your rebellion and unbelief and disobedience, and that you might trust Christ for forgiveness and live for the glory of God.  More...

The Spiritually Self-Seeking Church by Oswald Chambers

. . . till we all come . . . to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ . . . —Ephesians 4:13

Reconciliation means the restoring of the relationship between the entire human race and God, putting it back to what God designed it to be. This is what Jesus Christ did in redemption. The church ceases to be spiritual when it becomes self-seeking, only interested in the development of its own organization. The reconciliation of the human race according to His plan means realizing Him not only in our lives individually, but also in our lives collectively. Jesus Christ sent apostles and teachers for this very purpose— that the corporate Person of Christ and His church, made up of many members, might be brought into being and made known. We are not here to develop a spiritual life of our own, or to enjoy a quiet spiritual retreat. We are here to have the full realization of Jesus Christ, for the purpose of building His body.  More...

Himself Took Our Infirmities - Smithe Wigglesworth

Bible reading, Matt. 8:1-17. Here we have a wonderful word. All the Word is wonderful. This blessed Book brings such life and health and peace, and such an abundance that we should never be poor any more. This Book is my heavenly bank. I find everything I want in it. I want to show you how rich you may be, that in everything you can be enriched in Christ Jesus. He has abundance of grace for you and the gift of righteousness, and through His abundant grace all things are possible. I want to show you that you can be a living branch of the living Vine, Christ Jesus, and that it is your privilege to be right here in this world what He is. John tells us, “As He is, so are we in this world.” Not that we are anything in ourselves, but Christ within us is our all in all.  More...

Christ Came With An Invitation And A Warning by David Wilkerson

Jesus stood in the temple and invited everyone to come under his merciful wings of protection. He called out to the blind, the sick, the leprous, the poor, the lost, everyone to come and find healing and forgiveness. But the religious crowd refused his offer. So Christ testified of them, “Ye would not!” (Matthew 23:37).  More...

A New Time and Place by Jack Hayford

“Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past.

See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it?

I am making a way in the desert and streams in the wasteland.” (Is. 43:18-19 NIV)

Permit me to ask you something rather pointedly: Are you prepared to allow the Spirit of God to change your status quo? Are you truly ready for the Lord to do something new in your life? Something unexpected? Out of the ordinary? Are you ready to follow Him down roads you’ve never traveled? Are you open to the possibility that He might bless you in an unexpected, perhaps startling way?
